Abstract

Objective: This study aimed to systematically investigate the role of digital leadership in enhancing organizational agility and to identify the mediating mechanisms between leaders’ digital competencies and the organization’s adaptive capacity to environmental changes.

Methods and Materials: This qualitative systematic review was conducted based on a comprehensive literature search across Scopus, Web of Science, Springer, and Google Scholar databases. After initial screening, 12 relevant articles were selected. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis through four stages: open, axial, selective, and integrative coding. NVivo 14 software was used to organize, code, and extract major themes. The analysis continued until theoretical saturation was achieved.

Findings: Thematic analysis revealed three main categories: digital leadership competencies, dimensions of organizational agility, and the linkage between digital leadership and agility. Findings indicate that digital leaders, by strengthening technological literacy, data-driven thinking, employee empowerment, and innovation culture, play a crucial role in fostering flexibility, responsiveness, and adaptive capacity. Furthermore, digital leadership supports the development of agile structures, learning culture, and data-based decision-making that lead to sustainable organizational agility.

Conclusion: Digital leadership is a vital driver of organizational agility, creating synergy among technology, process, and people. The results highlight that true agility emerges when leaders go beyond technological management and focus on cultural transformation, organizational learning, and human empowerment.
